JACK
Jack is available for adoption to the right home. Very specific criteria must be met and is noted below. Please read the entire post. There will be NO wavering on the listed criteria. He is NOT for the first time dog owner, nor anyone who doesn't have experience with herding breed dogs and behavior modification.

Jack has been bounced around way too much and must go to his forever home. He is 2 years old (DOB 1/31/19), is approximately 45 pounds and 22+ inches at the withers. UTD on shots and is neutered. He was found tied up to a light pole in NYC. Thereafter, he was taken in by an all breed rescue. They had good intentions, but they were way in over their head with his herding quirks. Jack then came to ECHO.

The following are must haves and there will be no exceptions: fenced in yard (minimum 4 feet high), no cats, no small dogs, no small animals or poultry, no children under the age of 15, (has high prey drive) must live in a house. The dog is not suited for apartment, condo or townhouse living. No dog parks. Must have an active lifestyle. Would prefer he not be left alone for several hours at a time. Gets along great with both male and female dogs and would do best living with 1 or 2 other dogs, but no more. (ie: not a large group of dogs). He also will not do well with an overly dominant male dog.

Jack’s attributes: sweet, super smart, agile, athletic, healthy, neutered, up-to-date on shots, gets along with other dogs, desperately wants to be with his person, well behaved in the house, not destructive, he does not mark in the house, knows a ton of tricks, loves the clicker, food motivated. He has very soulful eyes and a super inquisitive expression! Jack is a quick learner, he seeks praise and wants to be right. He just needs to be shown how. He is not noise sensitive/reactive. Doesn't care about thunder, fireworks, etc. Settles nicely in the house, loves Kong toys, frisbee and tennis balls. Rides well in a crate in the truck. Hikes well on leash.

Jack’s vices: barks when feels separation anxiety, reactivity to motion, pulls on leash, reactivity to other dogs he meets on leash. *WEHAVE BEEN WORKING ON ALL THESE ISSUES AND HE HAS GREATLY IMPROVED. THIS TRAINING MUST CONTINUE* Must use positive reinforcement but also be firm and follow through with commands. Head halter and Martingale collar‘s are a must. At this time, he cannot run off leash in an non-fenced area. He cannot live with livestock closeby.

Perfect home: active active active! Must keep Jack engaged mentally and physically. Sports home: nosework, disc dog, Up Dog, tracking, casual agility or 1 ring trials. Cannot show in a multiple ring environment (at least not in the foreseeable future). Not recommended for herding, as his prey drive is too intense. (it could be worked on tho with a skilled trainer) Would be a great hiking/outdoors buddy. Already started in frisbee and agility. Will be introduced to tracking and barn hunt.

Jack is located in Monmouth County, New Jersey. He loves people and wants to find a family that he can call his own, who will help him thrive. He is currently being fostered by Debbie Lazaro of ECHO Rescue.

LADY BUG
UPDATE FROM FOSTER MOM 2/20 Now that we’re well into week three of living indoors with her foster family, Ladybug’s true personality is coming out. She is a silly girl who craves attention. She enjoys showing you her tummy (that is splotchy and adorable) and if she barks for attention and is asked to be quiet she lays down and rolls over, tail wagging the whole time. She’s learning to sit (not jump) to be pet. With time and attention, Ladybug will be the happiest companion and will provide you with kisses that go on for days. If that all sounds good to you, please read on...

Lady Bug (LB we call her) is an Australian Shepherd/Cattle dog mix (to the best of our knowledge) and weighs approximately 38 lbs. LB is FULLY VETTED.

LB was a street dog, in TX fending for herself, and then in a shelter to have her pups at the very tender age of one and a half. She is just a pup herself and will need lots of TLC and training. Someone with experience in the working dog breed of Aussie/cattle dog mix would be her ideal adopter.

In the few short weeks LB has been in foster care she has learned to go to the door to be brought outside, is crate trained/ sleeps the night and sits to get her harness on for a walk. She walks well on the leash but will ned help in learning proper behavior when passing other dogs. She is new to living indoors and she is still a puppy, so she is still getting the hang of things.

Because she was on her own for most of her life, LB takes time to warm up to other dogs. She does now live happily in a home with another dog, however she will only be placed with another dog with an experienced handler to ensure a proper introduction and acclimation.

LB needs a home where she can get lots of exercise, both physical and metal. She is a very smart lady and needs to channel that intelligence.

Ladybug certainly indicates she is grateful for her foster home. Here are the things she loves: giving kisses, getting pet, human attention, giving kisses, toys, walks and giving kisses. Also, giving kisses.

Here is what LB needs to be the best she can be:

  • Humans home more often than not
  • No children under 10 due to her jumping and herding tendencies
  • Breed experience is a must!
  • A huge amount of activity on a daily basis
  • A JOB....he will need a daily challenge to keep her engaged and happy.
  • LOTS of chew toys!!
  • A family with patience as she navigates being a pet.
  • Experienced owner with breed knowledge who has time to build trust
  • To be an only dog or with someone who can work with her to live agreeably with another dog
  • Continued socialization and training.
  • LB is Not a dog park dog
  • A rural home, or a home with a fenced yard, she will not thrive in apartment/condo setting or busy city environment
  • A fenced yard is preferred to keep her safe, work on training and get exercise.
  • NO CATS!

Ladybug is currently with Golden Huggs Rescue.

HUDSON
Hudson is approximately 9 years old and has been my loyal border collie/newfoundland(?) mix since puppyhood. He is an impressive 90 lbs and solid black. According to the Queensbury, NY shelter, his mom was a purebred border collie.

Hudson is extremely loyal, enjoys long hikes and walks, and being snuggled by his human companion. He is always on alert to protect his home and his human. Hudson is unfortunately not good with other dogs or young children.

Hudson presently lives near Saratoga, New York.

THEO
Theo is an 8 yo BC/Lab mix. He is perfect for someone with an active lifestyle who adores the great outdoors and a commitment to their loving pup! He is an extremely smart 8 year old boy who would prefer to meet his potential adopter a few times before going home.

Theo is an affectionate boy, but on his own terms. He knows his basic commands and has done some agility work. Theo enjoys long walks and then sitting on a blanket and watching the world while chewing a nice toy.

Theo is good with dogs, but not good with children. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccinations.

For more information on Theo, please reach out to adoptions@pawscrossedny.org

YANKO
Yanko is a 12 yo border collie mix who gets along well with other dogs and all people.
